External Signals are the off-site evidence AI providers use to decide whether to cite you. Top-quartile brands carry three signal types simultaneously (claimed Wikipedia article, active YouTube channel, 50+ reviews on G2 or Trustpilot). Bottom-quartile brands carry one. Most of the gap is closeable in 30 days of Offsite-agent work.
Week 1 — Wikipedia
Wikipedia is the highest-leverage single External Signal in the AI commerce channel. 5W Public Relations' May 2026 audit found Wikipedia and Reddit combined drive more than 25% of ChatGPT US citations — and Wikipedia is the only one of the two with stable, long-tail weight.
- Verify notability. Wikipedia requires reliable third-party coverage — at minimum two substantive independent press placements.
- Draft a stub article — founding, product category, key milestones, sourcing details.
- Submit via Articles for Creation (AfC), not direct mainspace, if there's any notability ambiguity.
Week 2 — YouTube
YouTube is the second-largest non-Reddit Social citation source in the channel and the citation source that absorbed most of Perplexity's post-lawsuit Reddit drop in late 2025. A dormant YouTube channel (no uploads in 90+ days) is read by models as inactive evidence.
Week 3 — Reviews and consensus
External Consensus moves on the strength and recency of third-party review aggregation. The two highest-leverage destinations for DTC are Trustpilot (broadly indexed) and G2 (for SaaS-adjacent or B2B-tilted brands).
Week 4 — LinkedIn organisation and press
Week four targets Entity Clarity. The LinkedIn organisation profile is the most reliable single signal models use to disambiguate brand entities. Then: schedule one press placement for the following month.
What 30 days produces
For Nova Skincare in Q1 2026, the 30-day External Signals plan produced: Brand Reputation dimension +6.3 points, Favorability +4.9, Brand AI Health composite +3.8.
